What is the CPL?

The CPL – Cornwall Premier League is Cornwall Cricket Club’s exciting junior and youth cricket tournament, bringing the energy and atmosphere of franchise cricket to our young players.

Players represent one of four CPL teams — Mighty Mavericks, Fireballs, Thunderbolts or Super Sixes — competing across boys’ and girls’ age groups in a fast-paced tournament format.

With team colours, CPL branding, competitive matches and finals, the tournament is designed to create an unforgettable cricket experience while developing skills, confidence, teamwork and a love for the game.

Who is the CPL for?

The Cornwall Premier League (CPL) is designed for junior and youth cricketers who want to experience cricket in an exciting, competitive and team-focused tournament environment.

The CPL features U10, U11, U12 and U13 Boys, alongside U13 and U16 Girls, giving players the opportunity to compete with and against their Cornwall teammates while representing one of our four CPL franchises.

Whether you’re an established player or ready to challenge yourself in a tournament atmosphere, the CPL is about competition, development, teamwork and having an unforgettable cricket experience.

When is the CPL?

The 2026 Cornwall Premier League (CPL) takes place from Sunday 29 November through to Tuesday 15 December 2026 at Cornwall Cricket Club.

Boys CPL: 29 November – 13 December, Girls CPL: 14–15 December, Finals Day: Sunday 13 December

Weekday matches will be played after school, with weekend matches starting from 9:00am.

How Does the CPL Work?

The Cornwall Premier League (CPL) brings a franchise-style tournament experience to junior and youth cricket at Cornwall Cricket Club.

Players are placed into one of four CPL franchises — Mighty Mavericks, Fireballs, Thunderbolts or Super Sixes — with teams created to provide a fun, competitive and balanced tournament.

Each age group plays a series of scheduled matches, giving players plenty of opportunities to bat, bowl, field and contribute to their team.

Throughout the CPL, teams compete for points and bragging rights as they work their way towards the tournament finals.

The focus is simple: competitive cricket, player development, teamwork and plenty of fun.

Every player in the Cornwall Premier League will represent one of our four CPL franchises, each bringing its own identity, energy and competitive spirit to the tournament.

Thunderbolts Fast, fearless and ready to strike. The Thunderbolts bring energy, intensity and excitement every time they take the field.

Fireballs Bring the heat! The Fireballs are all about passion, confidence and playing an exciting brand of cricket.

CPL Frequently Asked Questions

Who can play in the CPL?The CPL is for Cornwall Cricket Club junior and youth players across U10, U11, U12 and U13 Boys, plus U13 and U16 Girls.

When is the CPL? CPL 2026 runs from 29 November to 15 December 2026. Each age group has designated playing dates, with weekday matches played after school and weekend matches starting from 9:00am.

How much does it cost? The CPL costs $200 per player, covering tournament participation, your CPL team experience and associated tournament costs.

How many games will my child play? Players will take part in multiple matches across their age-group schedule, giving them plenty of opportunities to bat, bowl, field and contribute to their team.

How are the CPL teams selected? Players will be allocated across the four CPL franchises — Thunderbolts, Fireballs, Mighty Mavericks and Super Sixes — with the aim of creating balanced and competitive teams.

Can my child choose which CPL team they play for? Team allocations will be managed by Cornwall Cricket Club to help create balanced teams. While requests may be considered, we cannot guarantee placement in a particular franchise.

Does my child need to be available for every match? We strongly encourage players to be available for all of their scheduled CPL dates. If you already know your child will be unavailable on a particular date, please let us know when registering.

What happens if a player is unavailable for a match? We understand that other commitments can arise. Please notify the CPL organisers as early as possible so teams can be managed appropriately.

What does my child need to bring? Players should bring their normal cricket equipment, protective gear, water bottle, sunscreen and any food or snacks required for the day. Further match-day information will be provided before the tournament.

Does my child need their own cricket equipment? Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment where possible. If your child requires assistance with equipment, please contact Cornwall Cricket Club before the tournament.

What happens if it rains? Any weather-related changes, delays or cancellations will be communicated to families as early as possible. Where possible, the CPL organisers will look at options for affected matches.

Will there be finals? Yes! Teams will compete throughout the CPL with the opportunity to progress to finals and play for the title of CPL Champions.

Is the CPL only about winning? No. While we want the CPL to be competitive, the tournament is equally focused on player development, teamwork, confidence, enjoyment and creating a fantastic cricket experience.

When do registrations close? Registrations close on 25 September, or earlier if an age group reaches capacity. We recommend registering early to avoid missing out.

Where will the CPL be played? All CPL matches will be played at Cornwall Cricket Club.

Where can I find fixtures and results?Full fixtures, match times, results and tournament updates will be available through the CPL section of the Cornwall Cricket Club website.
