Welcome to Cornwall Districts Cricket & Sports Association
To be invited and then elected President of the Cornwall Districts & Sports Association is both an honour and a privilege.
The role has given me the opportunity to regularly attend the Cornwall Cricket Club and meet up with many of the members and spectators watching the games on one of the three wickets. Watching the great game of cricket at this superb location, surrounded by olive trees, with the traditional wooden pavilion, and with One Tree Hill in the background makes one long for hot summers.
I joined Cornwall in 1964 playing in the two day 5th grade competition. At that time all club cricket games were two day matches. Then in the early 80’s when one day cricket games were introduced Cornwall had two President grade teams playing in the one day competition. I was fortunate enough to be involved and it was a pleasure to still be a member of a Cornwall team so many years after first joining the club.
Today Cornwall has teams playing in most grades of the Auckland Cricket Association competitions and also has a very competitive Women’s team. Junior cricket on a Saturday morning during the season sees over 1000 boys and girls playing and enjoying cricket at Cornwall Park and at a number of other venues.
For those ex players and supporters who still wish to be associated with this great club, we have instituted the Over The Hill Club which has an annual dinner and gives older members the opportunity to reminisce about Cornwall and the great game of cricket.
With another exciting summer season on the way I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all from the Cornwall Cricket Club. And I look forward to seeing you at there.
Rowly Potter
