This page brings you everything you need to know about our midget grades (school years 1-4), junior boys grades (grades U10-Under 13 as at 1 April) and junior girls grades (Under 10-Under 16 as at 1 April).
At Cornwall, we strongly believe in being a club for the whole family. As such, we encourage parents and caregivers to involve themselves in their child's cricket at whatever level they can. If you would like to be involved as a volunteer please don't hesitate in letting our convenors know! This coming season we will support our volunteer coaches more than ever before.
Registrations open 1 August. You must register by 3 October to guarantee your spot, after this date some grades may close and your child will be put on a waiting list.
Cornwall Cricket Club has the best run junior programme in the country and the midget programme is it's crowned jewel. Whether you're a parent on the boundary or a child learning the game, it doesn't get better than midget cricket at the scenic Cornwall Park.
The Midget Grades include all children in school years 1-4. Girls in year 1 and 2 also typically play in the midget grades.
When and where are the games?
The midget grades play once a week on alternating Friday nights from 5.00pm and Saturday mornings from 8.30am over the season. The majority of games are played at Cornwall Park with a maximum of two games over a season played at Michaels Avenue in Ellerslie. Children in these grades typically do not have training during the week, however, this differs from team to team.
Start Date - 04 December will be game day number 1!
Last game before Christmas - 17/18 December.
First game after Christmas - 11/12 February.
Final day of the season - 25/26 March
All players must wear the correct Cornwall playing shirt (with McDonald's and Players Sports the only logos on the shirt), a Cornwall cap or bucket hat and white shorts.
What ball is used?
Year One and Two: Kookaburra Kiwi Cricket Ball
Years Three and Four: Kookaburra Super Softaball
How many overs per game?
Our junior formats all fall into New Zealand Cricket's best practice recommendations. The length of each game is as follows:
Year 1 ad 2: Skills-based activities followed by an 8 over a side game
Year 3 and 4: 16 overs
How are teams selected?
Our junior teams are put together based on our selection policy for graded and non-graded teams. Find the policies here.
When will teams be named?
Your grade convenor will send a list of players in your team at least 10 days prior to your first game.
Documents for the Season
Our Junior Committee is reviewing the rules for the season. These will be finalised and published during October.

Girls play the majority of their club cricket on Saturday morning unless they are in the mixed year 1 and 2 grades (in which case the information for midget grades is more applicable to you).
